Julia Schneerson works as a PhD student in general and French linguistics at the University of Basel, under the supervision of Lorenza Mondada and Elwys De Stefani. Using multimodal conversational analysis and ethnomethodology (EMCA) as conceptual frameworks, her thesis explores the way in which unacquainted people in public space spontaneously engage ininteraction, while walking their dogs. Through the rigorous multimodal analyses of audio-visual corpora, she aims at investigating how participants create and stabilize interactional space in an emergent way and what role dogs play within the organization of human interaction.
